What does the Animal Shelter do?

The Washington County Animal Shelter works to lower the number of animal nuisance problems in the county and to increase the number of animals returned to their homes or adopted into loving homes. Since opening in 2012, we’ve averaged assisting over 2000 displaced or homeless pets per year. We have averaged over 350 spay or neuter surgeries each year through our Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program. We are dedicated to continuing these efforts.

How do I adopt a pet?

Start by asking yourself if you have the time and money to dedicate to a dog or cat? Then consider what kind of pet best suits your personality and living situation. Do you rent, and does your landlord allows pets? Do you have a fenced yard? Do you want an active pet or a couch potato?

Once you answer these questions, take a look at the pets available at our shelter online. Once a pet is selected, we require you and the other pets in your home to meet with the dog or cat before making any decisions.

Finally, fill out a pet adoption application.

Important things to note: If you rent, our staff will verify with your landlord that you have permission to have a pet. We will also check that any other pets in your home are spayed or neutered and up-to-date on their Arkansas State Law required rabies vaccinations.

You must be at least 18 years old to adopt a cat or 21 years old to adopt a dog.
