In 2000, the Center moved to its' present location and offers services to holistically meet the needs of Youth whom it serves.
Massachusetts Youth Screening Inventory (Maysi)
This screening is generally administered to each youth upon intake to the Detention Center and is a 52 question screening tool, administered for the three months prior to intake. Maysi screens for mental health issues and helps to guide detention programming to individually meet the needs of the youth.
Medical Needs
Needs are addressed through consultation with a contract Nurse, who approves medications and performs an initial evaluation of youth. If your child has medical needs, please promptly advise Detention Staff.
Education
School classes are held Monday through Friday, following the Fayetteville Public School schedules for holidays and in-service days. Classes are conducted by on-site, state-licensed Special Education and General Education teachers. Students work primarily in the areas of English language arts, math, science, social studies, and physical education.
JDC teachers contact the students’ schools and obtain transcripts and class schedules. Students are given the opportunity to recover any credits through the Credit Recovery Program. For security reasons, classes are conducted using the online program, Edgenuity. Upon release, JDC teachers will send the student’s school a Student Release Form with exit grades and any other information about recovered credits. Questions concerning the Education Department may be directed to (479) 444-1670 and request to speak to a teacher.
